Prenatal education programs are considered for inclusion on the Ontario Prenatal Education Programs Directory if they meet all of the following criteria:
Prenatal education programs are provided in Ontario. Prenatal education programs are provided in the following formats:
- Group prenatal education programs
- Online prenatal education programs
- Prenatal education programs that include both group and online components
- Drop in prenatal education programs Individual prenatal education programs
In person prenatal education programs are offered by instructors with one or more of the following relevant qualifications:
- Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) certified birth educator (CCCE)
- Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) certified labour doula (CLD)
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
- International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) certified birth doula (ICD)
- International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) certified childbirth educator (ICCE)
- Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE)
- Medical doctor (MD)
- Nurse practitioner (NP)
- Registered dietitian (RD)
- Registered midwife (RM)
- Registered nurse (RN)
- Registered practical nurse (RPN)
- Other recognized prenatal education, childbirth or doula certification
Guidelines are not limited to these criteria and exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.
